ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia junior J.P. Hackney and sophomore Saniel Atkinson have been named to the Southeastern Conference Track & Field Community Service Teams, according to a recent announcement from the league office.

Atkinson, a native of Upper Marlboro, Md., volunteers for Martha's Table where she helps prepare lunch, dinner and dessert for the local homeless people in Washington, D.C. Along with her mother’s help, she co-founded SanSan's Closet, an organization that collects clothes, school supplies, coats, blankets and toiletries to be donated to the Shepherd’s Cove Shelter in the Maryland area. So far, the group has had six drives and collected over 2,000 items. Atkinson also regularly helps coach children at her local track team Upper Marlboro (Md.) Boys & Girls Club and participated in Comcast Cares Day, where she helped clean up schools, did landscaping, painting and helping elderly people with their homes. She was named Miss. Maryland Teen USA Community Service Winner after collection over 200 coats for "Helping Hands".

At the recent SEC Championships, Atkinson went over the high jump bar at 5 feet, 10 ½ inches to earn runner-up honors. She also finished fifth in the triple jump, supplying the Lady Bulldogs with a total of 12 points. Atkinson has now advanced to the NCAA East Preliminary meet on May 26-28 in Bloomington, Ind., for a shot at making the NCAA Championships.
